Martin Currie expands global emerging-markets team with two key hires
Kim Catechis and Alastair Reynolds are to join Martin Currie's global emerging markets team by the end of 2010. They bring with them combined investment experience of 43 years and both join from Scottish Widows Investment Partnership (SWIP) where they have worked together for the past ten years. Kim is currently head of global emerging markets equities at SWIP and Alastair is lead manager of the GEM smaller-companies mandates and specialist central and eastern European mandates.

The appointments demonstrate Martin Currie's commitment to enhancing its GEMs capability and ensuring the team has the appropriate resource meet its clients' goals. Martin Currie is separating GEMs from its Asian equities team and establishing an independent team structure. Kim will become head of this new emerging-markets desk.

As Head of GEMS at SWIP Kim is responsible for funds under management of £2.2billion across seven distinct strategies. Prior to joining SWIP in 1996 he worked at Eagle Star Inversiones, SGC, SA as Chief Investment officer for six years. Before this he was chief investment officer at F.G Gestion SGC, SA and investment manager at Edinburgh Fund Managers.

Alastair Reynolds joined SWIP in 2000 and is the research manager and investment director on the GEMS desk. As research manager he prioritises and coordinates the team's stock-research activities. He is lead manager of the GEM smaller- companies mandates and specialist central and eastern European mandates, and has sector-analyst responsibility for stocks across the consumer (ex Latin America) and healthcare sectors.
