Corporate social responsibility
We believe in contributing to the wider communities in which we live, work, invest and do business in. Our corporate social responsibility activities are driven by the commitment of our employees and, as such, are the embodiment of our company’s culture and values.
Martin Currie Charitable Foundation
Launched in 2006, the main vehicle for our charity giving is the Martin Currie Charitable Foundation. It is run entirely by staff and operated separately from the management of our company. Since its inception, approximately £3 (US$4) million has been awarded to worthwhile causes through the Foundation in areas such as health, welfare, international aid, the environment, education, community and culture.
Volunteering has always been a key part of our corporate social responsibility programme. Staff regularly initiate, plan and work on volunteer projects both during working hours and in their free time. The company actively encourages these social endeavours and matches any holiday time taken with further time off.
Martin Currie Rob Roy Challenge
First held in 2006, the Rob Roy Challenge is the foundation’s flagship fundraising event. Thousands of participants from the around the world have entered as teams or individuals in the past 11 years of the event to journey across the spectacular Rob Roy Way in the Scottish Highlands. For more information, or to register your interest, in the 2018 event, visit www.robroychallenge.com.
In 2017, employees from across our business were involved in an adventure challenge to Peru, hiking, cycling and white-water rafting across the country as well as spending time volunteering at the Chicuchas School for Girls. The school provides support for the many abandoned children surviving alone on the streets of Cusco and was chosen as the lead charity partner to benefit from the challenge programme. The actual challenge followed six months of sponsored events from the Peru team, which raised over £85,000.
