Martin Currie appoints Head of UK & European Intermediary Sales to drive further growth plans
7 February 2020
Martin Currie, a Legg Mason affiliate and active equity specialist with US$17 billion of assets under management, has appointed Sophie Heslop as Head of UK & European Intermediary Sales to spearhead growth plans in the region.
The appointment builds on Martin Currie’s recent successes in other key markets including the US, Australia and Asia, and aims to capitalise on the significant growth potential of its broad fund offering across UK and European retail and wholesale markets. Specifically, the new role will develop enhanced sales channels leveraging the Legg Mason distribution network.
Sophie has joined Martin Currie from Walter Scott & Partners where she held a Client Investment Manager position and assisted in developing its third-party global equity business. Prior to Walter Scott, Sophie spent 10 years with the Edmond de Rothschild Group in London.
Initially she focussed on the sales, trading and research of Emerging Markets Funds and Investment Trusts within their securities division; the latter three years of this period was within Asset Management introducing the Group’s capabilities to the UK market. Sophie began her career at Cambridge Associates in London.
Mel Bucher, Co-Head of Global Distribution commented: ‘We are delighted to welcome Sophie to our business, at such an exciting time in its development. We believe Martin Currie’s impressive UK and European fund range, including its well-established UK Investment Trust products, and industry-leading stewardship proposition represent a compelling offering to investors’. Mr Bucher continued: ‘Sophie’s considerable experience aligned with our ambitious growth plans for the region mean we fully expect to develop a highly successful UK and European franchise’.
The appointment follows the change in leadership at Martin Currie last year when Kimon Kouryialas and Mel Bucher were promoted to Co-Heads of Distribution to drive the company’s global distribution platform.
