ICGN award for Stewardship

‘We believe understanding sustainability and acting as engaged owners of the companies that we invest in is essential to building long-term value for our clients. We are delighted to have been acknowledged by the ICGN in this way’ Ide highlighted that Martin Currie’s commitment to stewardship was also being increasingly recognised and valued by clients. ‘Martin Currie now manages assets for some of the largest public plans in the US, as well as major state asset owners in Australia.’

‘Our long-standing experience in integrating ESG analysis across all our investments has undoubtedly helped us become an industry leader, and this kind of expertise is highly valued by our clients.’

Ide noted that receiving the award would encourage Martin Currie to strive for even higher standards in stewardship and ESG. ‘We believe there’s still much more we can do. We continue to evolve our analytical frameworks to incorporate increasingly pertinent sustainability issues such as cybersecurity, taxation and, of course, climate change.’

He continued, ‘Importantly, we are engaging with companies, both on a one-on-one and collaborative basis, to encourage them on this journey. By doing so, we believe we can work towards a more sustainable investment environment, helping to deliver long-term value for all our clients.’

Martin Currie runs a number of developed and developing market strategies via its parent company Legg Mason. The UK-domiciled version of its Global Emerging Market strategy is in the top quartile of its peers over five years and in the top decile over three years.
