Stewardship is an essential part of our investment process, and this manifests itself in our integration, engagement and voting activity. Transparency about what we do, and why we do it, is a very important extension of this.

Our Governance and Sustainability Annual Report 2017 is your chance to understand the depth of our approach, as well as the prevalent issues, corporate engagement and significant achievements of the last 12 months.

Notably, Martin Currie is proud to have retained the highest A+ rating from the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) for its approach to Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) issues.

Martin Currie is also a ‘tier 1’ signatory of the UK Stewardship Code which aims to enhance the quality of engagement between investors and companies to help improve long-term risk-adjusted returns to shareholders.

In addition, your Board believes that companies that exhibit positive ESG behaviours contribute to increasing value over the longer term. The Board has recently published a compliance statement with the FRC Stewardship Code which incorporates its policies on socially responsible investing and works closely with our investment manager, Martin Currie, to ensure the appropriate active engagement with the companies in which the Company invests.
