As the news of events in Ukraine filters around the world, we’re aware that some shareholders may be keen to understand Martin Currie Global Portfolio Trust’s exposure to the region and the resulting market volatility.
The portfolio does not invest in any Russian listed companies and has limited geographical and revenue exposure to the region.
With the growing Russian/Ukraine geopolitical risk over the past weeks we have been conducting our detailed risk assessments on the portfolio. This highlights the exposure of each company in our portfolio (and their supply chains) to the impacts of market volatility and global events, like the rising oil price.
At present, we remain confident that the stocks that we hold continue to offer an attractive upside and exposure to structural growth opportunities that we think are interesting on a five-to-ten-year time frame.
We maintain a close eye on events.

The analysis of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) factors form an important part of the investment process and helps inform investment decisions. The strategy does not necessarily target particular sustainability outcomes.
Risk warning – investors should also be aware of the following risk factors which may be applicable to the strategy. Investing in foreign markets introduces a risk where adverse movements in currency exchange rates could result in a decrease in the value of your investment.
This strategy may hold a limited number of investments. If one of these investments falls in value this can have a greater impact on the portfolio’s value than if it held a larger number of investments. Smaller companies may be riskier and their shares may be less liquid than larger companies, meaning that their share price may be more volatile.
