Matthew is a Portfolio Manager at Martin Currie Australia (MCA). He also specialises in fundamental research of the Australian financial sector and has a keen interest in uncovering true fundamental insights.  ​

Matthew joined MCA’s predecessor firm in June 2013 as the team’s finance sector analyst and was promoted to Portfolio Manager in 2022 to lead the Active Insight strategy alongside Sam Li. This promotion recognised Matthew’s ability to extract the fundamental insights from the broader team, deliver alpha, and communicate to clients, consultants and broader investor group. Matthew is also a co-Portfolio Manager for MCA’s Dynamic Value strategy. ​

Matthew is passionate that his work helps to deliver solutions against the needs of clients, and he’s thoroughly enjoyed seeing the evolution of the MCA product suite.​

Prior to joining the firm, Matthew worked at Merrill Lynch for nine years as lead banking analyst. He has also worked at Citigroup Smith Barney as an equity research analyst in the financials team, and at National Australia Bank in its M&A division, where he was involved in a number of large transactions.​ Matthew has a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) from the University of Melbourne, and holds a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment from the Securities Institute of Australia.​
