Focus on a Sustainable Future
Through our actions as investors, we can drive positive change for the world around us.
Martin Currie has been a leader in all aspects of stewardship and sustainability since 2009, when we became an early signatory to the UN-supported Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI). We have been consistently rated A+ (the top grade) by the PRI across all three pillars until 2020 and in 2021 were awarded two 5-star ratings and one 4-star rating which reflects the new and revised reporting framework. We were also one of the first asset managers to sign up to the ambitious new UK Stewardship Code.
To us, ESG impacts and sustainable financial returns are fundamentally intertwined. Stewardship is a critical element of our philosophy and is at the heart of all of our investment strategies.
Our teams have a clear focus on sustainable outcomes. To achieve the greatest impact, ESG analysis, engagement and voting should, in our view, be conducted by those making investment decisions rather than being outsourced.

Investing to Improve lives - Through Active Ownership
We believe the best way of Investing to Improve Lives is to embed key aspects of Stewardship and ESG analysis into our investment analysis and decision making, guiding our actions as investment owners.
Our Investing to Improve Lives brochure series showcases how through our actions as investors, we can enable positive change for the many stakeholders in the world around us while delivering positive financial outcome for our clients.
Our Stewardship Approach
Supported by our dedicated Stewardship, Sustainability and Impact team, our investment teams are best positioned to take a fully informed view of the ESG risks, opportunities and impacts that companies face or create. Today, we are leading the transformation to a sustainable future in three key ways:
How we invest:
Identifying companies that are innovating, developing and providing solutions to sustainability challenges.
How we influence:
Influencing the companies that we invest in on behalf of clients, both directly and through collaborative initiatives, to embed sustainable business practices and drive positive change.
How we run our own business:
Making a commitment to hold ourselves to the same exacting sustainability standards.

The PRI Reporting Framework is a key step in the journey towards building a common language and industry standard for reporting responsible investment (RI) activities. This RI Transparency Report is one of the key outputs of this Framework. Its primary objective is to enable signatory transparency on RI activities and facilitate dialogue between investors and their clients, beneficiaries and other stakeholders.
These documents outline how we apply the seven principles of the FRC UK Stewardship Code, the Korea Stewardship Code and the Japanese Stewardship Code (‘The Code’).
