At Martin Currie, our award wining team of Real Asset specialists have been investing in the listed Real Asset space for over 35 years and manage billions of dollars in the sector.

We invest in unique blend of listed REITs, infrastructure and utilities, and provide investors with an opportunity to tap into the multi-decade megatrend opportunity of urban population growth.

Our approach is to invest where Real Asset demand growth is underpinned by attractive demographic trends. We look for growing urban customer bases, while avoiding low growth regions like Japan and Italy where population declines can be an investment headwind. Our regional investment strategies focus specifically on Real Assets servicing the everyday needs of countries, regions and cities with the most attractive demographic growth.

We also only invest in very liquid and transparent listed REITs, infrastructure and utilities names. By combining these three listed asset classes together, we can access ongoing structural demand from urbanisation while reducing exposure to the less attractive components of each asset class – such as low-yield airports, higher risk office/commercial properties, property speculators or ESG-challenged utilities.

Our Real Asset strategies typically are defensive, with lower beta and lower correlation with global equities, infrastructure or property sector-specific strategies and other asset classes, and thus bringing diversification benefits to a broader portfolio.
