Martin Currie, the active equity specialist and steward of US$17 billion of assets under management, announces two new hires who will be responsible for aligning resources and strategies across European, U.S. and Latin American markets.

Barry MacLennan joins Martin Currie as head of wholesale distribution in Europe. From his base at company headquarters in Edinburgh, Scotland, MacLennan will lead the alignment of sales efforts between Martin Currie and Legg Mason in the U.K. and across Europe.

Legg Mason is a global investment company committed to active, long-term investing for individual and institutional investors. Martin Currie is one of its nine affiliate investment managers.

MacLennan brings extensive experience in the European wholesale market due to his previous 18 years with Standard Life Investments (SLI). The majority of his time there was spent on the company’s wholesale management team, where he developed and led a team of investment specialists focused on SLI’s relationship with internal and external distribution networks across a range of markets and channels.

MacLennan holds an M.A. in French from the University of Aberdeen and an MSc in European marketing and languages from Edinburgh Napier University.

Mark Cho joins Martin Currie as head of intermediary distribution in the Americas. From his base in New York, he is responsible for aligning sales efforts between Martin Currie and Legg Mason.

Since April 2014, Cho had held the role of analyst relations manager on the retail national accounts team at Legg Mason. He previously led the portfolio analytics team at Fred Alger Management. Before that, he managed the research and discretionary model business at Guardian Life.

Cho holds an M.S. in finance from Suffolk University’s Sawyer Business School and a B.S. in finance from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He is a CFA charterholder and a member of the CFA Institute.

Commenting on the new hires, Julian Ide, head of distribution and strategy at Martin Currie, said:
