Martin Currie continues to capitalise on its strong corporate social responsibility heritage, celebrating a momentous 2017 milestone by raising over £51,000 for its chosen charities, including The Fiona Walker Fund based in Edinburgh and The Chichuchas School for Girls in Peru.
As part of its 2017 Challenge Programme, colleagues at Martin Currie implemented a series of diverse fund raising events across the company's global locations in the run up to the 2017 flagship Adventure Challenge - the Peruvian Tri-X challenge.
Embracing the difficult terrain of the Andes by foot, raft and bike, 13 Martin Currie volunteers from Edinburgh, Australia and Singapore took on the gruelling adventure. As part of the journey, the team spent time volunteering at the Chicuchas School for Girls, a school which provides support for the many abandoned children surviving alone on the streets of Cusco.
Martin Currie is also excited to announce that the Martin Currie Rob Roy Challenge returns in June 2018 and will once again be a highlight in the sporting calendars of ramblers, hikers and adventurers of all abilities, looking to embrace the journey across the spectacular Rob Roy Way in the Scottish Highlands.
Starting and finishing in Kenmore, the Martin Currie Rob Roy Challenge 2018 offers three challenging routes to choose from, for all levels of walking and cycling enthusiasts. Registration is now open visit www.robroychallenge.com to sign up.
Commenting on Martin Currie's fund raising activities, Willie Watt, Chief Executive said:
As a forward-thinking business, it is a key part of our culture to invest in our corporate responsibility programme and to have an agenda that gives back to both the wider community and to our colleagues. This approach not only provides the opportunity for colleagues to undertake fundraising events and work together as a team, but allows them to embrace a growth mindset and push boundaries to achieve positive outcomes. There’s also the chance to learn new skills along the way and contribute to truly transformative work for our chosen charities.
The Martin Currie Adventure Challenge supported four primary charities across the globe. These are the UK based charity, The Fiona Walker Fund, the Peruvian focused charity, The Chichuchas School for Girls, the Australian charity supporting disadvantaged children, Berry Street and Habitat for Humanity, a poverty housing charity in Singapore.
In addition, other worthy charities that will benefit from the Martin Currie 2017 fund raising programme include, The Difference – patient care in the borders, British Heart Foundation Scotland, British Lung Foundation Scotland and Cancer Research UK.
